Residential Installation

A residential electrical installation – either for a new build or a re-wire – will include all the fixed electrical equipment supplied from the electricity meter. It will include all cabling, sockets, switches, light fittings and smoke detectors, as well as the consumer unit – or fusebox – which contains fuses, circuit breakers and RCDs.

A good electrical installation will start at the planning stage, to ensure there is a sufficient number of electrical sockets to avoid the need for extension leads and plug adapters. The correct cabling will be identified, and sufficient circuits installed to avoid danger and minimise the chances of circuit faults. Adequate earthing and bonding arrangements will be put in place, reducing the risk of electric shock and fire in the event of a fault.
